Common Sense Promotes Ellen Pack to President

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Common Sense, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in a world of media and technology, today announced that Ellen Pack is promoted to president, responsible for driving a strategic effort to build the organization's presence nationally and internationally; promoting its state-of-the-art Digital Citizenship Curriculum, free to all K-12 schools; and expanding its age-based media ratings, reviews, and parent-advice offerings.

Ellen Pack, President of Common Sense

Ellen has been an integral part of Common Sense's growth and success since she joined the organization in 2013 as vice president of marketing and, most recently, as its chief program officer.

As a seasoned entrepreneur and executive, Ellen's focus has always been at the intersection of media and technology. She has more than 20 years' experience launching and growing online products and services that make a difference in consumers' lives.

"Ellen's breadth of experience, along with her clear commitment to helping kids and families, ideally suit her to take on this role," said James Steyer, CEO and founder of Common Sense. "This is a proud moment for Common Sense, and Ellen is simply a terrific colleague and partner to all of us, and a great leader for our whole team."

In the early 1990s, Ellen founded Women.com and grew it into the largest internet destination for women. After Women.com merged with iVillage (now owned by NBC), Ellen ran Town & Country Resources, a regional home-staffing agency in the Bay Area, which she helped expand and then sold five years later in 2008. She went on to lead marketing at Elance (now Upwork), where she helped businesses grow by hiring online talent.

Ellen holds a B.A. in economics from Columbia College and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

"I'm thrilled to be in this role and proud to be representing the innovative and amazing work that everyone is doing throughout the organization," said Ellen Pack, president of Common Sense. "This is an exciting moment for Common Sense as our work has never been more relevant or more vital. I look forward to continuing to grow the organization and broadening the work we do to make kids the nation's No. 1 priority."
