CSRA Becomes First In Industry to Test Enterprise Level HRM System Operating on Amazon Web Services for US Navy

FALLS CHURCH, Va., Aug. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- CSRA Inc. (NYSE:CSRA) announced today it has received permission from the United States Navy to conduct Field Test 1 of the Navy's new integrated pay and personnel system as part of the Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (MPT&E) transformation efforts. The Interim Authorization to Test (IATT) will allow CSRA to test the viability and flexibility of a leading Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) human resource management (HRM) system operating on the cloud.

The trial seeks to leverage the benefits of hosting on Amazon Web Services (AWS) US East Cloud platform, while the appropriate security protocols are tested. CSRA will be the first company in the industry to conduct such a test for the U.S. Navy.

"We are honored to be chosen by the U.S. Navy to be the first to execute field testing for a COTS HRM instance on AWS," said Ken Deutsch, CSRA's Executive Vice President for Defense. "CSRA has led the industry by working with prominent tech companies to lead our military customers into the next generation of innovation and technology. We are proud to continue our collaboration with AWS to meet the needs of America's military."

The trial will operate on a remote accessed AWS environment, and will be tested against the appropriate Department of Defense (DoD) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) security controls, including CAC (Common Access Card) authentication. Current testing uses two AWS instances to test different configurations with the potential to use other cloud instances to test flexibility and scalability.

The first field test is being conducted by CSRA's Integrated Pay and Personnel System-Navy (IPPS-N) team, utilizing a Government provided and developed architecture and configured HR product. CSRA currently supports the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System (NSIPS). The NSIPS application supports all of the Navy's Sailors today. CSRA and NSIPS continue to work together to collapse other legacy HR systems into the NSIPS baseline. This trial is intended to chart a path for the Navy to transform into a secure next-generation digital environment leveraging cloud based capabilities.
