Fresenius Medical Care Announces Ernestine M. Lowrie Award for Clinical Leadership
Fresenius Medical Care North America, operators of the nation’s
leading network of dialysis clinics, are pleased to honor Loretta
Anderson RN BSN As the inaugural winner of the Ernestine M. Lowrie Award
for Clinical Excellence. Mrs. Lowrie was a pioneer in the treatment of
kidney failure who began her career as a hemodialysis nurse and became
the Chief Operating Officer of the Dialysis Services Division of
National Medical Care, a predecessor of Fresenius Medical Care. Known to
be uncompromising with respect to the quality of patient care since the
earliest days of outpatient dialysis treatment, Mrs. Lowrie is widely
credited with developing the policies and procedures that are the
foundation for modern dialysis nursing practice. In this way, she had a
profound effect on the lives of thousands. This award is presented in
her name, to honor her, and as an ongoing tribute to her legacy and long
lasting contributions to excellence in nephrology nursing.
Ms. Anderson was presented the award in the presence of more than 2,200
attendees to the recent Fresenius Medical Services Clinical Managers
national conference. After graduating Nursing School in 1980, Ms.
Anderson began her career at Queens Artificial Kidney Center, Queens,
NY. Recognized early for her care and concern for the quality of life of
her patients, she was quickly promoted to Charge Nurse, and subsequently
was the natural choice for Clinical Manager when the incumbent retired.
Her focus is on a team approach to care, and the team she leads has won
Platinum level awards as a Center of Excellence for five successive
years, since the inception of this distinction. Her team truly
demonstrates the dedication and focus on quality of care that epitomize
clinical excellence.
Ms. Anderson was recognized, as were six other finalist nominees from
across the country, each in their own way, leaders in nephrology
nursing, following in the footsteps of the precedent for excellence set
by Mrs. Lowrie. The other nominee Clinical Managers included: Tamyn
Needham from North Carolina, Sharleen Wilson from Louisiana, Marcy
Umbricht from Illinois, Minerva Mulero from Puerto Rico, Laura Kute from
Texas and Debbie Arrington from Arizona. Fresenius Medical Care
is proud to honor all of the nominees, and of their contribution to
providing UltraCareR to every patient, every
treatment.
