Hyperion and Sun Prove Enterprise-Class Scalability and Performance fo
Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 2005--
Hyperion (Nasdaq:HYSL), the global leader in Business Performance Management software, and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SUNW), today unveiled the results of a joint performance test, which demonstrated unprecedented reporting performance and sub-second response times of Hyperion Performance Suite running on the Solaris(TM) platform. In the test of complex reports with joins and calculations, Hyperion Performance Suite generated 42.3 pages per second per CPU, or 87.6 million pages per day. In the test of simple tabular reports, Hyperion Performance Suite on Solaris OS generated 121 pages per second per CPU or 250.9 million pages per day.
Real-World Deployment Scenarios
In order to accurately reflect performance in typical enterprise-scale deployments, Hyperion and Sun ran Business Intelligence tasks representative of popular real-world needs, including:
-- | Mission-critical production reporting -- Business conditions often require that companies generate massive reports, some with complex logic or calculations, during a specified window of time. The test included high-volume production reporting, for simple reports and those with calculations. |
-- | Viewing and analyzing pre-generated reports online or offline |
-- | The test noted performance for viewing pre-generated reports, a cost-effective approach to managing swelling user populations. |
-- | On-demand report generation -- On-demand report generation satisfies the needs of users who need to create custom reports on-the-fly, with the most up-to-date information. The test noted performance in a challenging on-demand environment with complex reports. |
Using these real-world scenarios, the performance test results demonstrated:
-- Enterprise-class performance with outstanding scalability for
massive reports such as complex financial statements, clinical
trial reports, and customer relationship management (CRM)
application reports
-- Sub-second response time for viewing summary-to-detail reports
with charts, pivot tables, and 1,000 rows of data.
Complete Test Results
The performance test was completed in August 2004 in the following environment:
-- 24 CPUs:
-- Application tier: four Sun Fire(TM) V480 servers with four 1.2GHz CPUs and 16 GB RAM, and one Sun Fire V880 server with eight 1.2GHz CPUs and 32 GB RAM, running Solaris 9 OS
-- Data tier: one Sun Fire V880 server with eight 1.2GHz CPUs and 32 GB RAM, running Solaris 9 OS
-- Mercury Software's LoadRunner, used to execute test scripts.
-- Sun Java(TM) Enterprise System, used for application and web server. -- Hyperion Performance Suite 8 services on application server.
-- Leading RDBMS used for reporting data and Hyperion Performance Suite repository
