Intuit Donates $2 Million to Local Food Banks to Assist U.S. Federal Workers

Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), makers of TurboTax(R), QuickBooks(R) and Mint(R), today announced it will donate $2 million to food banks in Alaska, Hawaii, Maryland, New Mexico, Virginia, Washington D.C. and West Virginia. These donations are focused on the regions that are most impacted by the government closure, supporting federal workers and the communities where they live and work.

Over 800,000 federal employees, along with countless contractors and small business owners living in these communities, are financially impacted by the closure. Most federal workers have missed at least one paycheck already, with another missed payday quickly approaching. That can make putting food on the table, in addition to paying for rent, utilities, credit card bills, healthcare and other expenses, a challenge.

"We’re committed to powering prosperity around the world, especially in communities that need it most,” said Sasan Goodarzi, chief executive officer at Intuit. "Across the U.S. there are communities experiencing a big financial impact from workers missing multiple paychecks. Food banks are essential to putting food on the table for many of these workers during this time of need,” said Goodarzi.

In Washington D.C., Intuit is donating to Capital Area Food Bank, which cited a 20 percent increase in calls from federal employees and federally contracted workers who need assistance with food for the first time. In other regions of the U.S., Intuit has selected food banks that are located in areas with a high concentration of federal employees, and expressed a need for support, including:

  • Alaska: Food Bank of Alaska
  • Hawaii: Hawaii Food Bank
  • Maryland: Maryland Food Bank
  • New Mexico: Roadrunner Food Bank
  • Virginia: Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia (Norfolk area)
  • West Virginia: Mountaineer Food Bank, Facing Hunger Food Bank

Through Intuit’s We Care and Give Back program, the company will also be doubling its match of employee donations to pre-selected, high-impact food banks in cities where Intuit operates. Employees may request donation matches up to $5,000 per fiscal year and are encouraged to use their fully-paid volunteer hours to give back to local food banks that are experiencing higher demand.

In addition, QuickBooks Capital customers who are affected by the government shutdown are eligible to defer payments without accruing interest until the government fully reopens. These customers are encouraged to contact the QuickBooks Capital support team at 1-844-848-0430 or visit QuickBooks Capital for assistance.

This donation is part of the company’s Corporate Responsibility strategy that builds upon the collective strengths of its people, products and partners as a good corporate citizen to power prosperity in communities around the world. Each year Intuit employees volunteer over 36,000 hours and donate over $4.9 million to charitable organizations, including Intuit’s match. In 2018, the company made $6.7 million in philanthropic donations and $68 million in product donations.
