Lumber Liquidators Stops Selling Chinese Laminates
(RTTNews) - Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc., which has been facing an investigation over safety concerns of its China-sourced laminates, reportedly stopped selling all Chinese flooring products. A public announcement is expected soon.
There have been allegations that higher levels of cancer causing chemical Formaldehyde in its laminates were a safety concern, and on alerts from several sources, Consumer Product Safety Commission has started an investigation a few weeks back.
Earlier in March, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson had asked Federal regulators to investigate whether the laminate flooring posed a health risk to public. He also requested to confirm whether the company broke federal laws by making false marketing claims.
CBS "60 minutes" had telecast a report on this allegations in February, and said that the laminate flooring made in China failed to meet health and safety standards of California. However, Toano, Virginia-based Lumber Liquidators denied the allegations and said the flooring has been tested and are safe.
Higher levels of Formaldehyde can cause cancer, asthma, chronic respiratory irritation and other ailments, including skin and breathing problems in adults and children.
