New Market Study Confirms EMC Rainfinity as Most Widely Deployed File Virtualization Solution
HOPKINTON, Mass., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced accelerated adoption of its EMC Rainfinity Global File Virtualization and EMC Rainfinity File Management Appliance solutions. Meanwhile, a new study released by technology research firm TheInfoPro shows that EMC Rainfinity remains the #1 in use file virtualization technology.
Rainfinity continues to accelerate its penetration into enterprises globally on the strength of its pioneering file virtualization capabilities for multi-vendor NAS (network-attached storage) environments and is being used to virtualize petabytes of customer information in a wide range of industries and operating environments. The addition of automated file archiving capabilities between multi-vendor NAS and Content Addressed Storage such as EMC Centera(R) also extend Rainfinity to support customers' archive and compliance initiatives in file area networks.
"File systems are expanding rapidly across distributed enterprises and IT organizations are struggling with the many downstream challenges posed by this growth. More enterprise IT organizations are turning to EMC Rainfinity to address common issues such as tiered storage management, file archiving and global namespace management across growing multi-vendor storage environments," said Rich Napolitano, EMC Senior Vice President, Storage Division.
"EMC Rainfinity provides our IT organization a powerful tool for proactive management of our tiered storage environment" said Eric Rinker, IT Manager, PDF Solutions, a leading provider of process-design integration technologies and services for manufacturing integrated circuits. The company manages about 60 terabytes (TB) of data in its NAS environment. "Rainfinity allows us to seamlessly move content without impacting end users or applications, greatly improving our ability to manage performance and capacity of our NAS infrastructure. The cost savings of not having to over allocate resources to provide flexibility is huge."
"Storage virtualization and consolidation are often tied together, and storage professionals within Fortune 1000 organizations are indicating that 20 - 40% of storage production environments are targeted to be virtualized by 2010" said Robert Stevenson, Managing Director of Storage Research for TheInfoPro. "Our Wave 10 Storage Study shows that EMC's Rainfinity is one of the top technologies organizations are considering to reach this goal."
New Enhancements Added to Rainfinity Global File Virtualization and Rainfinity File Management Appliance
EMC also announced immediate availability of new feature, performance and usability updates to its Global File Virtualization and File Management Appliance products including support for automated file retention capabilities within EMC Celerra and Network Appliance storage devices.
"EMC Rainfinity's new support of EMC Celerra File Level Retention enables customers to continue leveraging storage device capabilities that serve important business functions for archiving and compliance," Napolitano said.
