Night Driving Visibility, Critical to Your Safety!

Lighting is everywhere, in everything that we do. We use lighting to see in our homes, to take the perfect pictures and even to create a certain mood. We also use lighting to both see and be seen on the road; in fact, the lighting that our headlights project is crucial to our safety at night, especially during bad weather. "You will want to make sure of two things; that you have the correct type of light bulb in your vehicle’s head lights, and that the lights are aimed properly for maximum downrange illumination,” says Bryan Gregory, Advance Auto Parts (NYSE: AAP) director of consumer education, "if they are not adjusted properly, they may not be serving their purpose, which is for you to be able to see and be seen when you need it most.” Misaligned headlights cause unnecessary danger for you and other drivers. Not only will your area of visibility be impaired from misaligned headlights, but it may be blinding to other drivers if your beams are too high. There are several factors that can affect your headlights such as changes in ride height, vehicle load and size, minor fender benders and even everyday use. Today’s headlight technologies provide excellent illumination in most cases. When a bulb fails, be sure to replace the bulb or capsule with equal or better quality lighting. Headlights dim over time, similar to the lighting in your home; replacing the bulbs in pairs provides equal illumination and maximum downrange visibility. If you have installed auxiliary lighting, be sure that your lights are approved by the Department of Transportation in order to comply with your state’s laws that regulate the number and power of auxiliary lights. If you purchase fog lights, they should be wired to work only with the headlights while they are in low-beam mode. Your headlights illuminate the night in front of the vehicle, but a quick inspection of all other lighting is also important to your driving safety.
