Paul Hartley Named President of CIGNA International, Succeeding Terry Kendall

PHILADELPHIA, June 27, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CIGNA Corporation announced today that it will appoint Paul Hartley as president of CIGNA International, reporting to CIGNA Chairman and CEO H. Edward Hanway. Hartley, who most recently served as chief executive officer of CIGNA's Asia-Pacific region, succeeds Terry Kendall, who passed away last week following a prolonged illness. Kendall had led CIGNA International since 1999.

In making the announcement, Hanway noted that Kendall was instrumental in establishing CIGNA International as an industry leader. "Terry and his team have consistently delivered strong business growth and results, and they can be exceptionally proud of their accomplishments in a very competitive market," Hanway said. "CIGNA is a stronger company as a result of Terry's many contributions. With his passing, we have all lost a good friend and valued colleague."

Hartley joined CIGNA in 1985 and has successfully held a variety of important leadership roles, including responsibility for treasury and capital management for CIGNA International, serving as chief executive officer of CIGNA's Hong Kong operations and as vice president of life operations in Southeast Asia prior to assuming his current role as chief executive officer of CIGNA's Asia-Pacific region.

"Under Paul's leadership, our Asia-Pacific operations have grown rapidly and CIGNA has become an acknowledged market leader in the region in providing innovative life, accident and health insurance products and services through affinity partners," Hanway said.

Hartley is a graduate of the University of Sheffield & Hallam in England, and is an FCA. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He will become a member of CIGNA's executive management team. His successor for CIGNA International's leader in the Asia-Pacific region will be identified in the coming weeks.

"I am confident that given Paul's extensive experience, deep knowledge and leadership skills, he and his team will continue CIGNA International's successful record of focused growth and profitability," Hanway said.
