The Boston Architectural College Announces Accelerated Bachelor of Architecture Program
BOSTON, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boston Architectural College (BAC) is pleased to announce its Bachelor of Architecture program has been accepted into the National Council of Architectural Registration Board's (NCARB) Integrated Path to Licensure (IPAL) program, further validating the BAC's longstanding tradition of integrating in-class and experiential learning in architectural education. With the BAC's Master of Architecture IPAL program already approved in 2015, the BAC is the only school in New England offering an IPAL program at both the bachelor's and master's levels.
An NCARB study found that traditionally, it takes students an average of 12.5 years (reduced from an overall high of 15.5 years) to become licensed architects, from enrolling in a program to completion of professional exams. The IPAL program provides students the opportunity to complete all requirements for licensure—a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited degree, training under the supervision of a licensed architect, and successfully passing architecture registration exams (ARE's) —by the time they graduate, in 5-7 years.
"We are thrilled that our Bachelor of Architecture program has been accepted into the IPAL program," said BAC President Glen LeRoy, FAIA, FAICP. "The College is committed to being a strong provider of applied education. Being able to offer IPAL to our Bachelor of Architecture students will enhance the success of our education model of concurrently working in a design firm while pursuing a degree."
NCARB includes the architectural registration boards of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NCARB protects the public health, safety, and welfare by leading the regulation of the practice of architecture through the development and application of standards for licensure and credentialing of architects.
