The Fight Against Cancer: First Edition of Terry Fox Run in Saint-Laurent a Great Success!
SAINT-LAURENT, QC, Sept. 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - On Sunday, September 16, Saint-Laurent's elected officials attended the sunny start of the first edition of the Terry Fox Run at the Bassin du Suroît shelter at Parc Bois-Franc. Just over 50 participants raised $1,560 for cancer research. Under the initiative of the Québec office of the Terry Fox Foundation (TFF), this first edition was organized by Lisa Lemelin, a Saint-Laurent resident since last year who took part in her 32nd Terry Fox Run.
"We are really very proud to host Terry Fox Day for the first time in Saint-Laurent and, at the same time, to help the TFF raise funds for cancer research. With Lisa Lemelin, we also have a new example of our residents' commitment to the community," stated Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa.
Each participant could contribute by making an online donation in advance or by purchasing one of the Terry Fox products on site on the day of the Run, such as t-shirts or books, which were available for sale. As for Lisa Lemelin, she strongly hopes this first success will enable the Run to return to Saint-Laurent next year and every year after that.
