COLOMBIA: Spanish Electoral Observer Recalled To Show Support To Petro
(RTTNews) - Colombia's Electoral Council (CNE) revoked the international observer credential for Sunday's presidential elections to the Spanish parliamentarian Lorena Ruiz-Huerta, claiming that she showed her support for leftist candidate Gustavo Petro in her social networks.
According to a CNE resolution, with Ruiz-Huerta's comment in favor of Petro, a former mayor of Bogota, "the principles of neutrality and impartiality that inspire international election observation missions are violated."
As a result, the organization decided, through the resolution, to revoke "the accreditation recognized by the National Electoral Council as International Observer to Lorena Ruiz-Huerta."
In the resolution, the CNE details that the "Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs" must be informed and that the Council's International Affairs Advisory Office be authorized to "perform all necessary actions in compliance with this administrative act."
Ruiz-Huerta, affiliated to the Podemos political party (left), is a deputy and spokesperson for her parliamentary group at the Madrid Assembly.
