Apparel Giant Perry Ellis International Puts Community First

Perry Ellis International (NASDAQ:PERY) today unveiled the first in a full roster of community involvement efforts scheduled for this fall.

Beginning with a generous donation a few months ago to the American Heart Association, PEI has launched a corporate "Healthy Heart” initiative that includes weekly yoga classes for associates and quarterly ‘Your Healthy Heart!’ fairs that promote healthy diet and exercise, and test for risk factors of cardiovascular disease.

"We are proud to partner with Perry Ellis International, who are committed to improving the health of their employees and the community in which they serve,” commented Chad Buschell, Senior Development Director for the American Heart Association. "The persistent and consistent philanthropy of Perry Ellis International is what makes them a leader within our community.”

The first ‘Your Healthy Heart!’ fair will be held on Friday, August 20 and will feature two celebrity chefs who will give busy PEI employees tips on how to create fast and heart-healthy meals.

In 2006, Paul learned the valuable lesson of being physically fit as he underwent a biopsy for a cancer scare. After the scare, he worked harder than ever at his personal training with a renewed focus on healthy food preparation. He also acquired a Sports Nutrition certification. In 2007, "Chef Paul” formed Body Mind and Soul International and began dramatically transforming the lives of clients throughout South Florida through integrated training and eating plans.

Paul will also be launching his first book entitled "Treat Your Woman right 101” ‘A book for men by a man, Approved by Women’ in New York this September (a lucky few attending the fair will be able to win a signed prelease copy).

‘Rock ‘n Roll’ Chef Whyko (who will be the Chef Host of the upcoming television reality show, Recipe to the Rescue this fall) will be providing help to PEI employees by demonstrating proper nutrition for ordinary people who suffer from some of the nation’s most common ailments.

‘Chef Paul’ and Chef Whyko will be joined by a chef from Johnson & Wales University, and the University of Miami will provide smoking cessation information.

PEI will also be the exclusive apparel sponsor for the 2010 Go Red for Women Miami Red Dress Fashion Show on October 21 at the Bass Museum on South Beach, which will feature several Perry Ellis International brands in a celebrity-studded walk down the runway to benefit the AHA.

Perry Ellis International associates have also formed a community action committee that will initiate partnerships in the community to raise additional awareness and funds for the AHA. PEI employees will also participate in the Miami-Dade Heart Walk on October 30.

PEI’s commitment to the AHA will continue through May 2011.
