Chemically treated water leak in downtown Montréal
Magcare 107 and not Magnatrol
BOUCHERVILLE, QC, May 11, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Following a leak on the afternoon of May 10th, water treated with one of our products entered the potable water system in a building in downtown Montreal. Magnus responded to the situation by dispatching a team on-site and by working with the City of Montreal, the local fire department, and the building manager to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.
We were unable to determine the cause of the leak as we do not offer building maintenance services. However, initial investigations indicate the cause to have been a mechanical malfunction. The product has been identified as Magcare 107, an ecologically and organically designed corrosion inhibitor used to control corrosion in closed loop cooling water systems.
The products, manufactured by Magnus, are not designated for use in potable water. Magcare 107 contains a fluorescent tracer for rapid detection and is EcoLogo certified. The product, if ingested, can cause nausea and diarrhoea. It is recommended to drink plenty of water and contact a poison control centre or doctor if exposure through ingestion occurs.
We are in constant communication with officials to restore potable water operations as quickly as possible without compromising the safety of users.
