Constellation Energy Foundation Awards $400,000 to Maryland-based Nonprofit Organizations
Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) today announced that the Constellation Energy Foundation has distributed $400,000 among four Maryland-based charitable organizations using proceeds from the 2009 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship. Donations of $100,000 each went to The First Tee of Baltimore, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Union Memorial Hospital and the Baltimore Community Foundation/BGE Community Assistance Fund.
"We’re pleased that the important work these Maryland charities perform in our communities will continue with the help of contributions from the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship,” said Mayo A. Shattuck III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Constellation Energy. "The Champions Tour is a visible demonstration of our commitment to the communities in which we do business – particularly in Maryland. Corporate social responsibility is one of our foundational values, as evidenced by our involvement with this tournament, our substantial support for the United Way, our contributions to energy assistance programs and our efforts to grow jobs and protect the environment by investing in conservation and clean, affordable energy.”
"The Champions Tour is grateful for the generous support the Constellation Energy Foundation has given to these community organizations,” said Mike Stevens, president of the Champions Tour. "These efforts strengthen the communities we serve and further demonstrate why the Champion Tour’s charitable platform is such a key component of our tournament outreach."
The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship has been a carbon-neutral event since 2008, when it became the first Champions Tour event to earn that distinction. The event’s greenhouse gas footprint was reduced through onsite actions and offset through the purchase of certified hydrogen carbon credits and Renewable Energy Certificates.
The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is one of five major championships on the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour for eligible professionals age 50 and over. The 2009 Championship was contested on the East Course at Baltimore Country Club in Timonium, Md., with a field of 78 Champions Tour players taking part. The 2010 event is scheduled for Oct. 4 to Oct. 10 at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Md. As the last of the Champions Tour majors, the double Charles Schwab Cup points awarded to the top 10 finishers are a critical factor in deciding the Charles Schwab Cup points race.
