CSR plc (LSE:CSR) the world leader in Bluetooth connectivity, today announced that the new range of Sungjin Techwin Bluetoothhands-free car kits contain CSR's BlueCore3-Multimedia (BC3-MM)technology. The kits connect with Bluetooth-enabled phones within a10-metre range and are controlled by an innovative digital rear viewmirror. Sungjin Techwin's choice to use BC3-MM to provide Bluetoothhandsfree telephony in the car will ensure it connects to anyBluetooth enabled mobile phone due to CSR's extensive interoperabilitypre-testing. Both kits (MHF-R220BT and MHF-R330BT) are available now -with the MHF-R330BT featuring incorporated parking sensors.
The rear view mirror control unit, which is powered from thecigarette lighter socket, features a 12-digit caller ID display withsingle push button control of all call features and loudspeakersettings. The incoming phone number is announced through the unit'sinbuilt speaker and amplifier, which achieves superior sound qualitywith little or no distortion. CSR's Kalimba DSP suppresses cabin noiseand echo using CSR's Clear Voice Capture (CVC) technology.
Sungjin Techwin's decision to use CSR's BC3-MM with on-chipsoftware is recognition of the cost saving and quality advantages CSRbrings to its partners. BC3-MM's in-built Kalimba DSP requires nofurther external processor for audio processing saving money on theoverall bill of materials. In addition, incorporated CVC technologyenhances voice quality during calls. The DSP is also more efficient inaudio processing achieving power consumption levels similar to that ofBluetooth headsets without integrated echo and noise suppression.
The acquisition of Clarity Technologies in March 2005 brought CVCtechnology to CSR's Bluetooth portfolio. CVC's noise suppressionalgorithm separates the user's voice from the unwanted noise in theenvironment. The echo suppression system similarly removes allunwanted echoes allowing designers to position microphones andspeakers closely together. CVC is widely used in mono and stereoheadsets allowing for close coexistence of both microphone and speakerwith no feedback.
Kyae Kwong Lee, President of Sungjin Techwin commented, "Our newBluetooth car kits were developed using the best Bluetooth technologyand the highest quality components. CSR's Bluetooth silicon andsoftware incorporate the highest sound quality and their supportoffers us access to their expertise in designing wireless systems forthe automotive environment. The decision to bring CSR on board as apartner was an easy one."
Anthony Murray, Automotive Marketing Manager for CSR commented,"High voice quality during calls is difficult to achieve in a noisyenvironment like a car, however end users demand high quality voicesignals without paying a premium. CSR offers its partners costeffective and world class echo and noise suppression technologyincorporated into BlueCore, its leading Bluetooth silicon."
About CSR
CSR plc is the leading global provider of Bluetooth technology andhas developed expertise in other single-chip wireless communicationstandards such as Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11). CSR offers developedhardware/software solutions for Bluetooth based around BlueCore, afully integrated 2.4 GHz radio, baseband and microcontroller.
CSR has now launched its fifth generation BlueCore suite and is involume manufacture of its fourth generation BlueCore devices.BlueCore4 supports the Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) standard, which wasratified at the end of 2004. BlueCore4 remains the only EDR silicon tobe shipping in volume today. In November 2004 CSR launched UniFi, thefirst single chip 802.11a/b/g embedded solution specifically targetingthe mobile phone and consumer electronics markets.
BlueCore features in over 50 per cent of all Bluetooth devicesshipped and over 60 per cent of all qualified Bluetooth enabledproducts and modules listed on the Bluetooth website with industryleaders including Nokia, Dell, Panasonic, Sharp, Motorola, IBM, Apple,NEC, Toshiba, RIM and Sony using BlueCore devices in their range ofBluetooth products.
In March 2005, CSR acquired Clarity Technologies Inc., for itsClear Voice Capture (CVC) technology that enhances the audioperformance of any voice-based product or system. Applications for CVCinclude wireless headsets, handsets and automotive hands free systems.
In August 2005, CSR completed the acquisition of UbiNetics'software business, providing a strong R&D team to accelerate itsexisting software development in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and UWB. TheUbiNetics team gives CSR the capacity to extend its offering to mobilehandset customers.
CSR has its headquarters and offices in Cambridge, UK, and officesin Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, India, France, Denmark, Sweden andboth Texas and Detroit in the USA.
