'C**t Martinez': Another Day, Another Brutal Insult From Cable Company
(RTTNews) - Reputation of cable companies continue to be tainted by their underpaid and enraged customer service executives. In a latest gaffe, Time Warner Cable (TWC) named one its customers "C**t Martinez" in a letter sent from the company.
According to tech news website Ars Technica, Esperanza Martinez, a Time Warner customer from Orange County, California, received a letter that addresses her as "Dear C**t Martinez." The letter states that she requested her cable services be canceled.
However, Martinez told Ars that she never requested to cancel her cable service.
"The only information they could provide was that the name change was made on 2/12/15, which happens to be the same day I used their 'live chat' feature online and called in and spoke to a representative regarding an issue with my cable box. I was not upset even when they could not resolve my issue and had to send a technician out. I have no idea why a TWC employee would do this and risk losing their job. It shows what type of companies TWC and Comcast are by the people they hire to represent them," Martinez told Ars in an email.
However, Time Warner "immediately" apologized for the error and offered Martinez one year of free service.
However, when contacted by Ars, a Time Warner spokesperson said, "We are truly sorry for the disgraceful treatment of Ms. Martinez and have reached out to her to apologize directly. Our investigation showed that this was done by an employee at a third-party vendor. We have terminated our agreement with this vendor and are changing our processes to prevent this from happening again."
Recently, Comcast Corp. (CMCSA, CMCSK) named one of its customers a 'Super B*tch' on her bill, just days after it apologized for changing a customer's name on a bill from Ricardo Brown to 'A**hole' Brown.
The two cable giants of America-- Time Warner and Comcast were the least popular companies among consumers, according to the December 2014 edition of the University of Michigan's American Consumer Satisfaction Index.
Last year, Comcast had announced its plans to buy Time Warner Cable in a $45.2 billion merger that will join the two biggest cable companies in the U.S. However, the union of the two cable operators is still in a regulatory limbo.
CMCSA is currently trading at $58.23, up $0.38 or 0.67%, on the Nasdaq.
TWC is currently trading at $148.75, up $1.27 or 0.86%, on the NYSE.
