Splendid Film acquires new HELLBOY and IRON SKY THE COMING RACE

(Cologne, 12 June 2017) - Following the immense success of IRON SKY, Splendid Film, a subsidiary of Cologne-based Splendid Medien AG, has now also acquired the sequel to the sci-fi comedy by Finnish director Timo Vuorensola: IRON SKY THE COMING RACE. Twenty years after the events on the moon, a nuclear war has rendered the Earth uninhabitable, but beneath the surface there is another world populated by dinosaurs and Nazis.

The outlook is bleak in the new HELLBOY: RISE OF THE BLOOD QUEEN. A new mission brings Hellboy (David Harbour, Stranger Things) to London, where he has to confront the return of the bad guy. The film is directed by Neill Marshall (Game of Thrones) based on a script by Andrew Cosby and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

In the sci-fi action thriller FREAK SHIFT, Oscar award-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Tomb Raider) in the role of Diane and Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger, The Social Network) in the role of Felton hunt down some deadly monsters. Diane is obsessed with the idea of avenging her family's death. Felton, who has always been in love with her, risks his life to save her. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley (Free Fire).

Gerald Butler back in action! In the western SNOW PONIES, he is tasked with delivering a mysterious package together with a gang of hardened men. Along the way, the team has to overcome deadly adversaries and dangerous obstacles. Then there is also the matter of what cargo they are actually risking their lives for.

THE VILLAINESS, directed by Jung Byuong-Gil (Confession of Murder), featuring spectacular Asian action, created quite a stir at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The film tells the story of Sook-Hee (Kim Ok-Vin) who is trained to be a highly effective killing machine and hired as a spy for a secret government organisation. As a sleeper agent, she leads a half-way normal life with a husband and child until she receives an assassination contract, which drags her back to the deep, dark recesses of her past.

Splendid Film has also acquired UNABOMB from IM Global starring Viggo Mortensen, which portrays the FBI's unconventional and drawn-out pursuit of notorious bomber Ted Kaczynski. It is intended for exclusive release in the Benelux countries. The film is directed by Robert Lorenz (American Sniper, Gran Torino).

These films are intended for release from 2018.
