Google Updates Translate App With Cool New Features

(RTTNews) - Internet giant Google Inc. (GOOG, GOOGL), has updated the translate app by improving its features like real-time conversation and camera translations.

Google updated the conversation translation feature of the app, which now allows "a more fluid conversation." The upgrade has improved translation between two languages on the smartphone in real-time, making conversation with a person using a foreign language easier and faster.

A user now only needs to select two languages in the app and he won't be further required to switch between the languages during the conversations. The app will automatically recognize changes in the two languages that are being spoken and continue to translate it in real-time.

"When talking with someone in an unfamiliar language, conversations can... get... realllllllly... sloowwww. While we've had real-time conversation mode on Android since 2013, our new update makes the conversation flow faster and more naturally," said Barak Turovsky, Product Lead, Google Translate.

Another update is instant translation using camera photos. The app will instantly translate any text using the smartphone camera. The users would only have to just point their camera at a sign or text and then the app will scan the text and instantly display the translated version on the smartphone screen, even if the user does not have an Internet or data connection.

This new feature uses the Word Lens technology from Quest Visual, which Google acquired last year when it bought Quest Visual.

The updated Translate app is available on Android and iOS app stores.
