ITC Institutes Investigation of Patent Complaint Against Macronix

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Spansion Inc. (NYSE: CODE), a global leader in Flash memory-based embedded systems solutions, today announced that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted to institute an investigation of unfair importation by Macronix Inc. The decision of the ITC validates a complaint filed by Spansion and effectively overrules last minute arguments filed by Macronix.

Spansion's complaint alleges that Macronix NOR Flash and XtraROM products infringe six patents that relate to the security of memory cells and to the manufacturing and structure of flash memory chips used in gaming devices, digital cameras, networking equipment, laptop and tablet computers, and other consumer electronics.

Spansion has asked the ITC to bar importation of infringing Macronix Flash memory devices and all downstream products that include infringing Macronix Flash memory devices from the US market. Spansion announced its complaint against Macronix last month. http://news.spansion.com/2013-08-14-Spansion-Files-Patent-Complaints-Against-Macronix
