LONDON, Dec. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Manufacture of Rubber Products, Excluding Tyres : The South African rubber products sector, which excludes the manufacture of tyres, generated sales of R16.2bn in 2015. South Africa's industrial rubber manufacturers provide a range of products, some intermediate and others finished products created from natural synthetic rubber. Large quantities of natural rubber, which is suitable for the manufacture of conveyor belts, are imported, as South Africa does not have a climate suitable for large-scale rubber plantations. Synthetic rubber, which is manufactured from hydrocarbons, is produced locally and imported.

Challenges and Opportunities: As industrial rubber producers primarily sell goods into the mining and automotive industries, as well as the construction, printing and medical industries where in general growth has been low, no growth in the sector was recorded between 2014 and 2015. Future demand for products, especially intermediate products, is likely to be stifled because of low economic growth and political risk factors. However, although the industry is a net importer of products, South Africa is a net exporter in processed rubber products, and niche sectors where there is strong local demand for product, which in turn supports exports.
