Oprah Sheds Pounds, So Weight Watchers Plumps Up
(RTTNews) - Shares of Weight Watchers gained around 21 percent in Wednesday's trading on the NYSE after investor and talk show legend Oprah Winfrey revealed a significant weight loss with the company's weight-loss program.
On CBS' The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night, Winfrey noted that she has lost 42.5 pounds while on the program.
Winfrey, who held a 10 percent stake in Weight Watchers as of September, also said she intends to continue using the products, aiming to attain a healthier lifestyle.
She told the audience, "It has worked for me and it's not a diet and I have not sacrificed one day of losing 42.5 pounds."
In mid December also, the company's shares had gained about 18 percent, after it announced Winfrey's significant weight loss as part of a new "Live Fully" campaign.
Weight Watchers' "Live Fully"campaign in the New Year focuses on helping people live the life they want, with great foods, people and experiences they love, and the energy that comes with good health.
The campaign launches with two new TV ads featuring Winfrey's personal experience about losing more than 40 pounds after she joined the company's program, eating the foods she loves and enjoying a fantastic and full life.
The campaign also shows how Winfrey and other members are living well while losing weight.
Weight Watcher shares settled at $13.40 on Wednesday, up 20.94 percent.
