Stocks Steady After Recent Beat-down -- Canadian Commentary

(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks rose Monday, trimming recent losses as U.S. equities raced higher for a second day.

The TSX Composite Index was up 207.35 points to 15,241.88.

Scotiabank (BNS.TO) said that it will acquire Jarislowsky Fraser, one of Canada's leading independent investment firms with more than $40 billion in assets under management on behalf of institutional and high net worth clients.

Suncor Energy Inc. (SU.TO, SU) said it has reached an agreement to acquire Mocal Energy's 5 percent interest in the Syncrude joint venture for $730 million, or approximately C$920 million, subject to closing adjustments.

LCBO has chosen Shopify (SHOP.TO) to run its online cannabis sales.

Tim Hortons owner Restaurant Brands International Inc's profit more than tripled in the fourth quarter thanks to strong results from Burger King.

March WTI oil settled at $59.29/bbl, up 9 cents, or nearly 0.2%.

Oil prices dropped 10% last week, as the EIA lifted its forecasts for 2018 and 2019 U.S. crude-oil production.
