TalkingRain Becomes Presenting Sponsor of World's Largest Water Balloon Fight
SEATTLE, July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TalkingRain, the maker of Sparkling ICE, announced today its sponsorship of "Party Camp," a Seattle event to bring back the joy of summer camp to grown-ups. Proceeds from the event will benefit Camp Korey, a Carnation-based non-profit that provides children with serious medical conditions and their families year-round camp experiences at no cost. The goal is to raise more than $75,000 to send nearly a bus load of kids from Children's Hospital to Camp Korey.
Party Camp is a one-day adult summer camp taking place on August 17 at Seattle Center. 12,000 people will enjoy old-school fun during the day before they take part in the World's Largest Water Balloon Fight presented by TalkingRain, hurling more than 300,000 water balloons in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Water Balloon Fight.
"We are excited and honored to partner with Party Camp for this epic event in support of Camp Korey," said Nina Morrison, vice president of community and customer relations for TalkingRain. "Supporting our local community is part of our DNA and we couldn't be more thrilled at the opportunity to make the lives of kids and parents facing a rough time a little brighter."
Blending the best of summer camp nostalgia, Party Camp will include seven days of camp in seven hours. Activities include traditional camp games, water balloon toss competition, friendship bracelet making, a live music talent show, and local eats accompanied by a Red Hook Brewery beer garden and all the Sparkling ICE you can drink, the ever popular sparkling water created by TalkingRain. The fun begins at noon, and at 4:00 pm the official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Water Balloon Fight begins—previously set by the University of Kentucky in 2011 with 8,987 participants and 175,141 water balloons; and unofficially broken by the students with 11,660 participants and 236,484 water balloons in 2012.
The event is organized by a team of local young professionals in partnership with TalkingRain, who believe the best way to raise money for kids is by remembering what it's like to be one. In January, the team raised $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County during a whimsical "Snow Day" at Seattle Center, where 5,834 participants captured national headlines claiming Seattle's first World Record title for Largest Snowball Fight.
"TalkingRain is synonymous to all things community related here in the Pacific Northwest," said Neil Bergquist, head of the Party Camp team and organizer of Seattle's successful record-setting snowball fight. "We are excited to partner with them to help make Party Camp an even bigger success."
TalkingRain has been committed to giving back to the community and partnering with cause related organizations since they first opened in 1987—supporting hundreds of nonprofits across the country. Philanthropy is a big part of the culture and a major focal point of company success. This focus has allowed the company to become a staple on the sidelines of various sporting events including youth basketball, soccer and baseball games. In 2012, TalkingRain beverages were provided at dozens of community events in the U.S. as part of its mission toward giving back. The company is also dedicated to serving the community beyond the Northwest and has selected the Children's Miracle Network as their national initiative in giving back to local hospitals.
