The National Press Club and Newsy to Host Event on Online Conspiracy Movements and Mass Shootings

WASHINGTON, March 8, 2018/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the wake of almost every recent American mass shooting, from Sandy Hook to Parkland, online conspiracy movements have relentlessly targeted survivors and the families of victims. Ahead of the March For Our Lives, the National Press Club and Newsy will host a panel discussion featuring Stoneman Douglas High School student Suzanna Barna, the father of the late Virginia news anchor Allison ParkerAndy Parker, Washington Post's Abby Ohlheiser, and Newsy's Liz Wahl, all of whom have been targeted by conspiracy movements. They will also be discussing possible tech and policy solutions to this rapidly spreading problem. The event, "Truthers: When Conspiracy Meets Reality," will be moderated by the National Press Club's Vice President Alison Kodjak.

The night will begin with a screening of Newsy's 22-minute documentary report, "Truthers," which explores these conspiracy movements, and spotlights a pattern of online harassment that has real-world consequences.
