TSX Extends Record Highs With 8-day Win Streak -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks extended record highs with an eighth straight daily advance.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 19.22 points, or 0.12 percent, to 15,864.17 Thursday..
In corporate news, Bombardier (BBD.B.TO) narrowed its quarterly loss, but fell short of estimates on revenue. Management cited weak demand for trains and busses. Shares fell 3.9 percent.
Canadian Tire Corp. (CTC.TO) revealed earnings for its fourth quarter that advanced 10% from last year. Shares rose 1.2 percent.
TransCanada (TRP.TO) has refiled its Keystone XL application in Nebraska. Shares were flat.
EnCana (ECA.TO) released earnings for fourth quarter that fell 23% compared to the same period last year. The stock fell 2.2 percent.
Cenovus Energy (CVE.TO) reported a surprise quarterly profit on higher production. Share were up fractionally.
Sun Life Financial Inc. (SLF.TO, SLF) announced that James Sutcliffe will retire as Chairman and from the Board in May. He will be succeeded as Chairman by William Anderson. Shares dropped 5.3 percent.
Pierre Karl Péladeau plans to return as Quebecor's (QBR.B.TO) CEO. Shares slipped 1.8 percent.
