Vonage Gets 3 New Patents

(RTTNews) - Vonage Holdings Corp. (VG) said Tuesday that it was granted three new patents in December by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. U.S. Pat. No. 8,600,364, "Systems and Methods for Terminating Telephony Communications to Mobile Telephony Devices," issued December 3, relates to a system that automatically activates a call forwarding feature based on the customer's location, enabling low-cost incoming calls on mobile phones while traveling internationally.

U.S. Pat. No. 8,605,682, "Systems and Methods for Handoff of a Mobile Telephone Call in a VoIP Environment," issued Tuesday, provides a solution for avoiding the disconnection of a voice-over-IP call when the mobile user moves between coverage areas of different wireless networks.

U.S. Pat. No. 8,606,246, "Systems and Methods for Providing Telephony Services," also issued Tuesday, enables a customer to conveniently purchase a telephone service plan through a third-party merchant such as the Apple App Store and Google Play, without having to enter into a separate financial transaction with the services provider itself.

Vonage was granted 18 U.S. patents and filed more than 90 U.S. patent applications in 2013.

The company now owns 36 U.S. patents and has more than 210 U.S. patent applications pending, along with many foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
