Fairfax (US) Inc. -- Moody's rates Fairfax (US) Inc.'s senior notes Baa3, stable outlook.

Toronto, August 06, 2014 -- Moody's Investors Service has assigned a Baa3 rating to the proposed senior unsecured notes of Fairfax (US) Inc. (Fairfax US), due 2024. The notes are fully, unconditionally and irrevocably guaranteed by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (Fairfax; TSX:FFH; Baa3 senior unsecured debt/stable outlook), the ultimate parent and 100% owner of Fairfax US. Net proceeds are expected to refinance certain notes and trust preferred securities issued by subsidiaries of Fairfax, supplement Fairfax's cash position, increase short-term investments and marketable securities of Fairfax US, retire other outstanding debt, and for general corporate purposes.
