BRAZIL: Attorney General Requests Extension To Investigate Temer, Ministers

(RTTNews) - Brazil's Attorney General's Office (PGR) has asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) a 60-day extension for the inquiry against the President Michel Temer and the ministers Eliseu Padilha and Moreira Franco, said the Brazilian official news agency.

The extension should be decided by the rapporteur of the case, justice Edson Fachin. The case involves the supposed favoring to the Odebrecht construction company during the period in which Padilha and Moreira Franco were ministers, between 2013 and 2015, when Temer was vice president.

According to testimony by the former Odebrecht executive Claudio Melo Filho, there was a dinner at the Palace of Jaburu in May 2014 to discuss a transfer of R$ 10 million as a form of campaign aid for the PMDB, currently MDB.

After being included in the investigation by Fachin, Temer sent a letter to the PGR arguing that the president of the Republic should respond only "for acts that are strictly related to the exercise of the mandate."

The Planalto Palace said it will not comment on the request of the PGR.
