(UPDATE) BRAZIL: Economy Adds 115,898 Jobs In April, Data Shows

(RTTNews) - Brazil added 115,898 new jobs to its economy in April, according to data from the Labor Ministry. It was the best result for that month since 2013, when job creation reached 196,913.

Last month, the Brazilian economy hired 1,305,225 people and dismissed 1,189,327. All of the eight largest sectors increased their payroll, with the service sector leading job creation (+64,237), followed by manufacturers (+24,108), construction (+14,394) and retail (9,287) segments.

Workers were hired with a 1.22% higher average salary compared to March, of R$ 1,532.73. Salaries of dismissed employees rose 1.50%, to R$ 1,688.34.

The Brazilian President, Michel Temer, said ahead of the data release that job creation in April was at 115,000.
