Acme Packet Extends Outsourcery’s Cloud with Microsoft Lync

Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session delivery network solutions, today announced that Outsourcery, a world-leading, UK-based cloud service provider – and Microsoft's worldwide 'Hosting Solutions Partner of the Year' 2010 – is leveraging Acme Packet Net-Net® session border controllers (SBCs) to deliver SIP trunking services to Outsourcery’s hosted Microsoft unified communications (UC) customers.

The Net-Net 3820 SBCs are deployed in multiple high-availability (HA) pairs at Outsourcery’s access and interconnect borders to secure its network, route VoIP and UC sessions and aggregate usage statistics for its customers. This deployment extends Outsourcery's broad cloud product offerings for businesses by supporting its launch of Microsoft Lync 2010 and allowing geographic distribution across multiple sites.

Outsourcery is a world-leading cloud services and unified communications (UC) provider. The company has one of the broadest cloud product offerings for businesses in the world, covering hosted software applications (software-as-a-service), virtualized infrastructure (infrastructure-as-a-service) and unified communications solutions as well as professional services to customize and integrate solutions for customers. It is a founding member of the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF). Outsourcery is also the UK’s first carbon neutral UC and hosted IT solutions company, and was awarded the prestigious Comms Business ‘Green Channel Company Award 2010’ for offsetting its carbon emissions to replace open cooking fires in the Kisumu region of Kenya with energy efficient Rocket stoves.

Microsoft named Outsourcery in the 2010 Worldwide Partner Awards, as their ‘Hosting Solutions Partner of the Year’. Outsourcery is also Microsoft’s UK launch partner for UC and most recently won the prestigious Business Solutions Provider at the Mobile News Awards 2011, as well as the Parallels New Partner of the Year award 2011. A Microsoft Certified Gold Partner with a total of seven competencies, Outsourcery employs more than 120 staff based in the UK.

"We chose Acme Packet for a number of reasons, including their market leadership and experience with Microsoft UC deployments in enterprise and service provider networks,” said Ryan O’Reilly, Head of Telecoms Infrastructure & Networks at Outsourcery. "The Net-Net 3820 SBC will play a key role in our network as we expand our customer base and add new services to our IP communications portfolio.”

Acme Packet SBCs are proven to be interoperable with Microsoft UC solutions, having been used by service providers for qualification testing. Microsoft’s Unified Communications Open Interoperability Program (UC OIP) tests and qualifies third party infrastructure and services for interoperability with Microsoft UC solutions. Acme Packet is deployed in at least 70% of UC OIP-qualified SIP trunking service providers.

Outsourcery also chose Acme Packet SBCs for their broad range of functions and features, including security, accounting and routing. Acme Packet call detail records (CDRs) are used by Outsourcery for service level assurance and customer billing. Denial of service (DoS) prevention protects Outsourcery’s network against outages or degradation from traffic overloads and also ensures that network resources are not compromised by non-compliant protocol traffic. The Net-Net 3820 SBCs are also configured to route sessions between Outsourcery’s network and other IP service provider networks.

"Service providers worldwide recognize Acme Packet’s proven track record in next-generation hosted services solutions,” said Dino Di Palma, Acme Packet’s senior vice president of worldwide sales and business development. "Our commitment to interoperability pays dividends to service providers such as Outsourcery as they build out hosted UC and other service offerings.”
