Alcatel-Lucent, Internet Society Sign MoU For Thailand's Internet Infrastructure

(RTTNews) - French telecom equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent SA (ALU) and The Internet Society announced late Monday that both have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide equipment to support the development of the Bangkok Internet Exchange Point or BKNIX.

The support will be through the Internet Society's Interconnection and Traffic Exchange or ITE Program.

The BKNIX, which will be operational in December 2014, is expected to dramatically increase Internet capacity, encourage greater efficiency in local Internet traffic routing, create a more robust Internet infrastructure, and improve quality of service for the Southeast Asia region.

Alcatel-Lucent and The Internet Society noted that the new BKNIX will drive significant social and economic value to Southeast Asia by providing a neutral community IXP, powered by Alcatel-Lucent's state-of-the art 7750 Service Router.
