Android Phones Infected By Annoying Malware
(RTTNews) - Nearly 10 million Android phones have been infected by a new malware that generates ad revenues for its creators through fake clicks on ads.
According to Check Point, the malware is currently generating about $300,000 a month for its creators by clicking on advertisements without the knowledge of the user. The software also installs apps and collects browsing details of the user.
The malware, dubbed "HummingBad," was first spotted in February. The reports suggest that the majority of phones that have been affected by the malware are in China.
Check Point says that HummingBad establishes a persistent rootkit on Android devices.
