AVG Technologies Signs Yandex as Search Partner in Turkey

AMSTERDAM and SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AVG Technologies N.V. (NYSE: AVG), the provider of Internet and mobile security, privacy and optimization to 155 million active users, today announced a new search and distribution relationship with Russia's leading Internet search provider, Yandex (NASDAQ: YNDX).

Generating more than 60 per cent of all search traffic in Russia, Yandex is the country's most popular search engine, making it one of only a few examples where a local player is dominating the domestic search market. Yandex also operates in Turkey, where it launched a search engine and a range of other web-based services in 2011, as well as Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Under the terms of the distribution arrangement, Yandex Search will be offered by AVG to premium users of AVG Secure Search in Turkey alongside other search providers.

"Entering into this strategic partnership with Yandex is another example of how AVG Technologies is further developing a geographically-relevant, secure and accurate search experience for all our customers. We're proud to be working with Yandex as a search partner in Turkey, and to be able to help our customers there be confident in navigating their digital worlds," said John Giamatteo, Chief Operating Officer at AVG Technologies.

AVG Secure Search provides an additional security layer for users while searching and surfing online. By checking pages before they are accessed to identify any infected websites, AVG helps users protect their identity, personal information and devices.

"This partnership is all about choice. We use our proprietary antivirus technology to check twenty-three million webpages for malware every day and show eight million warnings about potential threats on websites to protect our users in all regions of the world. We understand, however, that a large number of people are used to using and justifiably rely on the great AVG Safeguard Toolbar when searching the web. Offering Yandex, the fastest growing search engine in Turkey, as an option to AVG users in this country is a big step forward to giving them access to the best Internet technologies," says Mehmet Ali Yalcindag, CEO of Yandex Turkey.
