Bazaarvoice Loss Widens On Expenses - Update

(RTTNews) - Bazaarvoice Inc (BV), a social commerce solutions provider, Wednesday reported a wider loss for the fourth quarter, hurt by loss from discontinued operations and expenses that offset a double-digit growth in revenues.

Austin, Texas-based Bazaarvoice posted a fourth-quarter net loss to stockholders of $23.7 million, compared with a loss of $23.1 million last year. On a per share basis, loss narrowed to $0.31 from $0.32 a year ago, owing to a higher share count.

Results for the quarter included loss from discontinued operations of $11.4 million.

Excluding items, adjusted loss for the quarter was $8.4 million or $0.11 per share, compared with a loss of $10.7 million or $0.15 per share in the prior year.

On average, six analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected a loss of $0.10 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues for the quarter rose 11 percent to $43 million from $39 million last year. Analysts expected revenues of $45.5 million for the quarter.

Operating expenses for the quarter were $41 million, compared with $48.6 million a year ago,

Bazaarvoice offers its solutions through Bazaarvoice conversations platform, a software as a service platform that enable clients to capture, display, and analyze online word of mouth, including ratings and reviews, videos and other forms of consumer-generated content.

The company's number of active clients at the end of the fourth quarter was 1,133 and the number of network clients was over 1,500.

Also, Bazaarvoice said it has agreed to divest PowerReviews LLC, the successor to PowerReviews Inc, to Wavetable Labs LLC for $30 million in cash. The deal is subject to approval of the divestiture agreement from the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as other conditions to closing specified in the agreement.

Bazaarvoice stock closed Wednesday at $6.23, down 0.08 or 1.19%, on a volume of 1.8 million shares on the Nasdaq. In after hours, the stock dropped $0.13 or 2.01%.
