BBVA Turns To Profit In Q3, Net Interest Income Down - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Spanish financial services firm Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. (BBVA) reported Thursday that its third-quarter net attributable profit was 965 million euros, compared to a loss of 1.06 billion euros last year. Earnings per share were 0.14 euro, compared to loss of 0.17 euro a year ago.

The prior year's attributable profit without corporate transactions was 784 million euros or 0.11 euro.

Gross income in the quarter was 6.20 billion euros, higher than last year's 5.98 billion euros. Net interest income declined to 4.31 billion euros from 4.49 billion euros last year. Net fees and commissions also declined, while net trading income climbed from last year.

BBVA CEO Carlos Torres Vila said, "It has been a good quarter, with solid growth in recurring revenues, cost control, and stability in risk indicators. Furthermore, we have already achieved the capital goal we had set for 2017."

At the end of September 2016, customers engaging with the bank through digital channels topped 17.2 million, a growth of 20% from September 2015. Of these, 11 million were mobile customers, up 41%.
