Ciena Q2 GAAP Loss Reduces, Results Beat View - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Network specialist Ciena Corp. (CIEN) reported a narrower second-quarter GAAP net loss of $10.2 million, or $0.10 per share, as against a loss of $27.1 million, or $0.27 per share, in the prior-year quarter. On an adjusted basis, Ciena's net income for the fiscal second quarter 2014 totaled $19.4 million, or $0.17 per share.

For the quarter, the firm generated revenues of $560.0 million, as compared with $507.7 million, a year ago.

On average, 21 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.13, on revenues of $559.18 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Looking forward, Ciena expects third-quarter 2014 revenue to be in the range of $585 million - $615 million, whereas 21 analysts project $583.31 million revenues.
