Cintas Helps America Shred Worries from 2010 on Good Riddance Day
Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), the leader in secure document management, is an official sponsor of the fourth annual Good Riddance Day on Dec. 28. For this New Year’s tradition, Cintas is providing one of its secure, mobile shredding trucks in Times Square for participants to watch their funny, bizarre and heartfelt memories of 2010 get shredded into pieces. Participants are welcome to shred anything from a picture of an old flame, a fashion disaster or a paid-off car loan. All items will be securely destroyed and recycled by Cintas. Those who can’t attend the event can follow @CintasCorp on Twitter or like Cintas on Facebook for live updates. Followers can also submit a photo of something they would like say "good riddance” to and watch it get shredded live in Times Square.
"The New Year is the perfect time to start fresh and we’re excited to help participants say ‘good riddance’ to any unpleasant memories from 2010,” said Karen Carnahan, President and COO of Cintas Document Management. "Participants can ensure all of their memories will be safely destroyed, never to be seen again, and can stay to celebrate at the most famous New Year’s Eve celebration in the world.”
To gear up for the event, Cintas hosted its inaugural Good Riddance Day Contest. Beginning in September, hundreds of people across the nation entered the contest for the chance to win a trip to New York City to shred their memories in person and ring in the New Year with a fresh slate. To enter, contestants submitted a picture of the item they would like to shred and described why in 500 words or less. After narrowing down the submissions to 10 finalists, Cintas opened up voting to the public to determine the winner. Tiffany Bradley from Knoxville, Tenn., won the contest and will shred her paid-off medicals bills from a life-threatening surgery. All contest entries will be destroyed during Good Riddance Day to give all participants a fresh start.
As the grand prize winner, Tiffany received:
• Two roundtrip airfare tickets to New York City
• Five-night stay at Wyndham Garden Hotel – Times Square South
• Two VIP passes to an exclusive pre-viewing of the Waterford® Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve Ball on Dec. 30
• Two "Let There Be Love" Waterford Crystal toasting flutes
• Designation as the official "First to Shred" at Good Riddance Day 2010
• Dave & Buster's gift card and power cards
• Ticket Package to Madame Tussauds
• Ticket Package to experience THE RIDE
• $50 gift card to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
"In Times Square, we like to do everything in dramatic style, like annihilating a whole year’s worth of unwanted memories – from worthless stock certificates to nightmare hairstyles,” said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance. "We are thrilled to partner with Cintas to help participants put the past behind them and ring in the New Year with a clean slate.”
