David Bere Named to the Board of Directors for the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy today announced that David Bere will join the nonprofit's Board of Directors beginning July 1st.

David L. Bere is Chairman and CEO of Nonni's Foods, LLC, a leading producer and marketer of biscotti and other specialty snack products. Dave formed a partnership with Wind Point Partners to purchase the business in January of 2011.

From 2006 to 2010, Mr. Bere served in a number of leadership roles with Dollar General Corporation, a leading discount retailer with over 8,500 stores and $11 billion in sales. He was named president and CEO in 2006 after serving on the Board of Directors since 2002. Upon completion of KKR's (a major private equity firm) acquisition of Dollar General in 2007, Dave was named interim chief executive officer. After a permanent CEO was named in January 2008, Dave served as chief strategy officer until his retirement in 2010.  He has also served in leadership roles within the food industry including CEO-Bakery Chef, CEO-McCain Foods and Quaker Oats.
