CompuGroup Medical Starts the Testing of the Telematics Infrastructure Based on the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with Pilot Practices

Koblenz, November 22, 2016: One of the world's largest and demanding IT projects goes into its immediate testing phase. After the consortium of PwC Strategy&, CompuGroup Medical Germany AG, and KoCo Connector AG officially put this world-wide unique infrastructure into operation on November 14, 2016, the pilot stage has been under way at doctor's offices, dentists, and hospitals since this week. After this, the comprehensive, nationwide roll out could begin in the second half of 2017. By putting this framework into operation, Germany will take a further important step towards the future- oriented healthcare system in which about 225,000 participants will be connected eventually.

A secure networking between all participants is one of the prerequisites for the digitization in the German healthcare system. This is the purpose of the telematics infrastructure; in a first step, the insured master data management, and a bit later on applications such as eDoctor's letters, drug therapy safety, and patient records are to be realized. Besides a significant improvement in preventive healthcare, this will also result in an increase in efficiency in the German healthcare system. By the mere increase in drug therapy safety up to 25,000 worst diseases can be avoided annually according to experts. These diseases often result in death and happen due to unwanted drug effects. The gematik (Society for Telematics Applications of the Health Card mbH) has instructed the consortium of PwC Strategy&, CompuGroup Medical Germany AG, and KoCo Connector AG to test this infrastructure in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Schleswig-Holstein with about 500 doctor's offices, dentists, and hospitals to begin with.

"The project shows that the help of intelligent digital solutions will not only modernize and improve the quality of healthcare for the benefit of the patients, but that by increasing its efficiency potentials it will also remain to be financeable in the long-term. Moreover the project provides the basis for Germany to stay an important research and development location in health and care matters in the digital age. We are proving in a unique way that the effectiveness of IT can match with a very high level of data protection and data security. We strongly believe that the personal commitment of Federal Health Minister Gröhe has led this project to this successful status," says Frank Gotthardt, Chairman of the Board and CEO of CompuGroup Medical SE.

Uwe Eibich, member of the Board of Directors of CompuGroup Medical Germany AG, adds: "We are very pleased that all efforts to the start of the test run of the electronic health record will now be of use. It was an exciting way to develop, build, and - wherever required by the Federal Ministry for Information Technology (FMIT) - have the necessary technical components examined and certified. Thus, we meet the highest safety standards world- wide. Our technicians are trained and are looking forward to installing the necessary hardware in the doctor's offices now."

Even if the telematics infrastructure on the basis of the electronic health record is now reaching the end of the road - the developments at CompuGroup Medical Germany AG have been thriving significantly. Recently, the company presented the CGM LIFE health record in the presence of Federal Minister of Health Hermann Gröhe on the MEDICA. It is considered the supreme discipline in eHealth regulations since it includes the required and fully integrated electronic patient record. It was not only the physician's view with an automatic and correspondingly documented transfer of the medical patient data into the electronic patient record via the telematics infrastructure as well as the necessary release processes by the patient to be seen, but also the secure access for the insured and patients to their own electronic patient record from home or on the road. CompuGroup Medical thus once again asserts its claim to be innovation driver on the way to healthcare networking and thus into a new, patient-centric quality of holistic care.
