doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ Releases Year-end Summary of Global Humanitarian Efforts
SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to bringing healing and hope to the world and to ultimately empower impoverished communities with the tools needed to become self-reliant, is thrilled to announce that it donated nearly $3 million in 2016. During the year, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation completed 30 projects that are improving the lives of millions in countries throughout the world. Fifteen more projects are in progress. All projects, including those outlined below, are made possible through the efforts of various corporate partnerships, generous doTERRA Wellness Advocates and employees, devoted volunteers, and collaborations with doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing® initiatives.
Corporate Partnerships
The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation made several new announcements in front of a record-breaking crowd at the doTERRA annual convention held earlier this year. A new partnership with Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.), an organization dedicated to rescuing children from sex trafficking was announced. As part of the partnership, doTERRA is manufacturing a special oil blend named Hope. The blend includes a peel-back label containing contact information to help victims seeking to escape their current situation find the resources they need.
Additionally, doTERRA matched all donations to the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation from convention time through November, netting an additional $250,000 to the doTERRA Healing Hand Foundation. During the year doTERRA helped the O.U.R. organization with $500,000 in contributions. dōTERRA also contributed $250,000 at the annual doTERRA convention to two other partners: Days for Girls, a non-profit creating quality sustainable hygiene and health education for women and girls; and Mentors International, a charitable foundation offering micro loans and program mentoring to impoverished entrepreneurs around the world.
doTERRA Wellness Advocates
doTERRA Wellness Advocates are independent direct-sale distributors of doTERRA products. Many Wellness Advocates take the initiative to organize humanitarian projects every year. In 2016, several Wellness Advocates implemented projects and invited the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation to participate by raising funds for each project. Three of these projects include Giveoils.org, SOL Collaborative, and the Mercy Mandate Foundation.
Giveoils.org – doTERRA Wellness Advocates Paul and Betsy Holmes established giveoils.org, a non-profit organization that collects and distributes essential oils to entities including orphanages, birth centers and hospice care facilities in disadvantaged countries. Giveoils.org partnered with Grace Village, a non-profit dedicated to caring for special needs orphans in China. The Holmes invited the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation to aid through a matching contribution campaign, allowing for an additional special needs foster home to be built in China.
SOL Collaborative - Katie Adams, a doTERRA Wellness Advocate, originated the SOL Collaborative, a board of passionate people devoted to raising funds for non-profit organizations that otherwise may not be able to complete their operations and mission. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation matched SOL Collaborative's contributions as part of one of their first efforts to raise money for the installation of a mill at the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi. The mill lessened the wait time to grind corn, and the funds to use the mill resulted in an anticipated $4,000 a month for funding refugee programs that educate orphans and rehabilitate victims of sex trafficking.
Mercy Mandate Foundation – Seven years ago, doTERRA Wellness Advocate Darrin Clark created Mercy Mandate Foundation to bring various humanitarian projects to Zimbabwe, Africa. In 2016, Clark's foundation built a transition home for orphans in an effort to provide a better quality of life to children in need. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation helped fund the completion of the building that gave 36 children a home. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation also installed a fish farm on the property to supplement the children's diet. Water from the fish farm nourishes produce for the orphanage, and the orphanage sells its surplus produce at local markets.
doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing
The doTERRA Co-Impact Sourcing initiative seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships with growers and distillers throughout the world to create sustainable jobs and provide reliable income in underdeveloped areas. In several of the countries where Co-Impact Sourcing exists, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation finds specific projects to support. This year's Co-Impact Sourcing expeditions in Nepal resulted in the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation, along with CHOICE Humanitarian, building the first permanent, earthquake-resilient schools in all of Nepal following the aftermath of the earthquake in 2015.
Co-Impact Sourcing also began work in Bulgaria this year where the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation established a partnership with the Social Teahouse, a Bulgarian social enterprise dedicated to arming children aging out of the orphanage system with the knowledge and resources for living a life of independence. With doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation support, the Social Teahouse anticipates an increase in public awareness to the challenges orphans face as they enter adulthood.
At the doTERRA annual convention, doTERRA announced a new doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation project in Madagascar where doTERRA sources Ylang Ylang oil, but where reliable healthcare is difficult to obtain. In addition to Co-Impact Sourcing initiatives, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation is working with 10 village communities in Madagascar to provide a mobile health clinic with a doctor visiting each village twice a week.
"The span of what the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation has accomplished this year is breathtaking" said David Stirling, doTERRA founder and CEO. "The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation has made a significant impact in the lives of millions. We recognize and are grateful to all who have helped make this possible. We look forward to more meaningful partnerships and inspiring projects in the years to come. Our combined efforts are making a real, significant difference for people around the world."
