Dr. Michael Russak, Hard Drive Industry Veteran, Joins Intevac as EVP of Equipment Business
Intevac, Inc. (Nasdaq:IVAC) announced today the appointment of Michael
A. Russak, Ph. D, to the position of Executive Vice President of
Business Development for Intevac's Equipment Business, effective
immediately.

chief executive officer. "Mike's extensive experience gives him a deep
understanding of the technology and operational needs of the hard drive
market. His proven leadership skills will enhance our capability to meet
our customers’ needs.”
Dr. Russak brings more than 30 years of experience to his new position
with Intevac. In October 2000, following Komag’s
merger with HMT Technology, he became President and Chief Technical
Officer of Komag. In this position, Mike was responsible for Komag’s
business and technical direction. In 2007, Komag was acquired by Western
Digital Corporation. At HMT, Dr. Russak served as Vice President of
Research and Development from August 1993. Previously, Mike held
management positions in the Research Division of IBM Corporation. Prior
to IBM, Dr. Russak worked for Grumman Aerospace Corporation as a
contributing scientist, and was involved in several material
science-related projects, including the re-entry heat shield for NASA’s
space shuttle.
Dr. Russak has published over 90 technical papers and holds 22 patents.
He also served as Executive Director of IDEMA U.S. in 2007, and was a
member of the U.S. Board of Directors from 1999 to 2006. Dr. Russak
holds a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering and a Ph. D in Materials Science
from Rutgers University.
