Encana Q4 Operating Earnings Plunge - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Canadian energy producer Encana Corp. (ECA.TO, ECA) posted lower net earnings attributable to common shareholders of $198 million in the fourth quarter 2014, compared with $251 million in the prior-year quarter. Operating earnings for the latest period plummeted to $35 million, or $0.05 per share, from $226 million, or $0.31 per share, last year.

For the fourth quarter of 2014, Encana reported cash flow of around $377 million, or $0.51 per share, versus $677 million or $0.91 per share, a year ago, largely due to higher current taxes and one-time outlays associated with the completion of the acquisition of Athlon Energy Inc., including the early repayment of Athlon's long-term debt.
