EQAO Releases 2016-2017 Provincial Assessment Reports for Each School and School Board in Ontario

TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2017 /CNW/ - Today the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released reports on the 2016–2017 provincial assessments for each publicly funded school and school board in Ontario.

The elementary school reports provide results, demographic information and Student Questionnaire responses from the primary- and junior-division Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, written by students in Grades 3 and 6.

The secondary school reports provide similar information relating to the Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.

Today's release of school- and board-level results allows school communities across the province to take stock of their programs and strategies to help all students master the fundamental reading, writing and mathematics skills defined by The Ontario Curriculum. EQAO's data, in conjunction with school- and district-level data, provide the opportunity for evidence-informed decision making to improve the outcomes for all learners.

Quick Facts

  • EQAO is an independent agency that measures quality, fosters improvement and contributes to accountability in our publicly funded education system.
  • EQAO creates and administers large-scale assessments to measure Ontario students' achievement in reading, writing and math at key stages of their education.
  • All EQAO assessments are developed by Ontario educators to align with The Ontario Curriculum.
  • EQAO's objective and reliable data complement the information obtained from classroom and other assessments to provide students, parents, educators and policy-makers with a snapshot of student achievement. This information can serve as a basis for targeted improvement planning at the individual, school, school board and provincial levels.

Quotes

"EQAO's independent data offer a reliable and valuable snapshot of what's happening in our classrooms. School trustees are responsible for improvements in student achievement, and EQAO data can both help inform improvement plans at the local level and foster accountability within our public education system."
Dave Cooke, Chair, EQAO

"For each school and board, there are patterns that emerge through EQAO data on student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics. These data, along with other information, such as that in report cards and teachers' observations, can provide school communities the basis for the interventions necessary for all students to succeed. Schools' EQAO results are an additional source of information to support the work of teachers and educators."
Norah Marsh, Chief Executive Officer, EQAO
