Flughafen Wien AG Generates Positive Results in Q1/2025: Increase in passenger traffic, revenue and earnings

The topping-out ceremony for the Terminal 3 Southern Expansion will already take place in the summer, and the expansion of Office Park by an additional 17,000 m² will soon commence. What will be the largest hotel at the airport hub featuring 510 rooms already had its topping-out celebration and will open its doors this year. In April 2025, passenger volume rose significantly by 9.6% in the Group and 7.6% in Vienna. Our strategic investment in Malta Airport also developed very positively, handling 15.8% more travellers. Long-haul flight service from Vienna Airport is also developing gratifyingly, with passenger volume to the Far East up 30% in the first quarter. Frequencies to Bangkok have been increased, the Chinese market is on the upswing and Scoot, an airline represented at Vienna Airport for the first time, is launching direct flight service from Vienna to Singapore on 3 June. We are working diligently on our key project - the Terminal 3 Southern Expansion - to ensure high quality service in the long term even if passenger traffic increases. Construction work is proceeding on time and on budget and the new terminal area is scheduled to be put into operation in the first half of 2027. Our passengers will enjoy an enhanced quality of their stay at a 5-star level on 70,000 m² of additional terminal space featuring many new shops, restaurants, lounges and much more,” says Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.
January-March 2025: 6.0 million passengers at Vienna Airport, 7.9 million in the Group In the first quarter of 2025, total passenger volume increased in the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport and the international strategic investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) compared to the first quarter of 2024. Passenger traffic in the Group climbed 4.6% year-on-year to 7,929,294 travellers. Vienna Airport registered a rise in the number of passengers it handled to 6,081,204 (+1.8%). The number of flight movements increased to 48,603 (+5.0%) in the period January to March 2025. The average seat load factor in the first three months of the year equalled 73.9%, comprising a decline of 2.6%p from the prior-year quarter. Cargo volume (air cargo and trucking) continued to develop positively, rising to 73,280 tonnes (+7.7%). Malta Airport reported a significant increase in passenger traffic to 1,793,261 travellers in Q1/2025 (+14.0%). Kosice Airport handled a total of 117,829 passengers, up 21.0% from the prior-year month. Almost all performance indicators at both of Flughafen Wien AG’s foreign strategic investments showed an improvement from the prior-year period.
Q1/2025: Revenue increase to € 225.9 million (+7.4%) and rise in the Group net profit to € 39.9 million (+7.3%) In Q1/2025, the Flughafen Wien Group generated revenue of € 225.9 million, comprising a year-on-year increase of 7.4% from the first quarter of 2024. EBITDA rose to € 81.3 million compared to the prior-year level and EBIT climbed to € 48.7 million. The Group net profit before non-controlling interests rose to
Revenue and earnings development of the segments Q1/2025 revenue of the Airport Segment climbed from the prior-year period to € 100.0 million, whereas segment EBIT fell slightly to € 17.1 million. The Handling and Security Services Segment registered a revenue increase to € 47.0 million compared to Q1/2024. with segment EBIT at a level of € 1.5 million. This segment also includes the security services of VIAS as well as the handling services provided by Vienna Aircraft Handling (VAH) and Vienna Passenger Handling Services (VPHS). The Retail & Properties Segment reported a rise in revenue in Q1/2025 to € 44.5 million. EBIT of this segment rose year-on-year to € 17.4 million. Revenue of the Malta Segment in the first quarter of 2025 was up to € 29.2 million compared to the prior-year period and segment EBIT improved to € 12.5 million.
Capital expenditure
Forecast for passenger development in 2025: about 42 million passengers expected in the Flughafen Wien Group and approx. 32 million at Vienna Airport A further upswing in passenger traffic will take place in 2025. The outlook for Vienna Airport remains unchanged at about 32 million travellers in the entire year 2025, whereas passenger traffic in the Flughafen Wien Group (including the international strategic investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) will likely equal approx. 42 million travellers.
Financial guidance for 2025 The Flughafen Wien Group expects total revenue to amount to about € 1,080 million by the end of the year, as well as EBITDA equalling approx. € 440 million and a Group net profit for the year before non-controlling interests of about € 230 million. Total investments of approx. € 300 million are anticipated in the year 2025. The current passenger and financial guidance are based on the assumption that there will not be any additional adverse geopolitical effects or massive restrictions on flight traffic.
Traffic development in April 2025: the rise in passenger traffic continues – the travel-intensive Easter holidays acted as a growth driver
Flughafen Wien Group: 3.8 million passengers (+9.6%) in April 2025 In April 2025, the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) reported a rise in passenger traffic to 3,753,111 travellers (+9.6% vs. April 2024).
Vienna Airport: 2.8 million passengers (+7.6%) in April 2025 Passenger volume at Vienna Airport in the month of April 2025 improved by 7.6% compared to the prior-year month to 2,808,777 passengers. The heavy holiday traffic during the Easter holidays, which took place this year in the month of April in contrast to the previous year (Easter holidays 2024 in March), served as the main growth driver.
Traffic results in detail The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport in April 2025 climbed 7.0% from the previous year to 2,167,994 travellers, whereas transfer passenger traffic rose 7.9% to 620,340. The number of flight movements in April 2025 rose 3.7% from April 2024 to 20,556. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport totalled 26,999 tonnes, comprising an increase of 13.0% from the prior-year level.
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Western Europe in April 2025 was up to 948,332 travellers (+3.3% from April 2024), whereas Eastern European traffic in April 2025 rose to 225,654 passengers (+8.1%). Passenger traffic to North America equalled 37,271 travellers, up 10.8% from the prior-year month, and the number of passengers flying to Africa increased to 33,228 (+16.7%). Passenger volume to the Middle East totalled 102,027 travellers in April 2025 (+60.4%), and the number of passengers flying to Far Eastern destinations climbed to 55,405 (+43.0%). Malta Airport recorded a substantial year-on-year rise in passenger volume to 896,769 travellers (+15.8%) in the month of April 2025. Kosice Airport reported robust growth in passenger traffic to 47,565 travellers, up 23.6% from the prior-year level.
Cumulative passenger traffic in the period January to April 2025: +3.6% at Vienna Airport and +6.2% in the Flughafen Wien Group Total passenger traffic at Vienna Airport from January to April 2025 rose 3.6% from the previous year to a cumulative figure of 8,826,981 travellers. Cargo volume was up 9.1% to 100,280 tonnes in the period January-April 2025. The entire Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) reported a 6.2% rise in passenger volume to 11,682,405 travellers during this period.
