EVRY climbs the climate rankings
(Oslo, 23 October 2014) EVRY is the most environmentally friendly IT business in Norway and Sweden according to a new international climate report. This is primarily due to its systematic work on virtualisation and cloud services and its construction of a new data centre with world-class environmental standards.
"It is both pleasing and motivating to have scored so highly in this report, and indeed to be ranked first in our two home markets. The fact that we are well ahead of many large companies in other industries - including companies we often admire - is a strong endorsement of the measures we take to reduce our impact on the environment. This is something that we should be delighted about. At the same time, we have to continue with these measures, and indeed delivering Future Proof and building the new data centre at Fet will ensure we maintain our world-class environmental performance", comments Håvard Larsen, Executive Vice President at EVRY.
Improved score
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an international environmental organisation that evaluates companies' efforts to reduce emissions. The evaluation criteria include not only companies' actual emissions, but also the extent of the environmental measures they take and their ability to measure and manage their emissions from year to year. Importance is also placed on the comprehensiveness of companies' environmental reporting and on their observance of reporting deadlines.
CDP is funded by investors who between them have assets totalling USD 92 trillion. The investors in question put pressure on companies around the world to take environmental concerns seriously and to work systematically to ensure they grow in a sustainable way. One of CDP's partners is the Norwegian insurance company KLP Forsikring.
This year, EVRY received a score of 91 points out of a possible 100. This is an improvement on last year's score of 89. EVRY's performance in relation to environmental action was also assessed. Companies are graded on a scale that run from A to D, with A being the best score possible. EVRY has also improved in this area compared with last year when it scored B, as this year it scored A and so for the first time was included in the Climate Performance Leadership Index, along with two other Norwegian companies.
The number of businesses taking part in this environmental impact evaluation scheme continues to increase, particularly because investors, customers and authorities are paying increasing attention to its findings. Consequently, a good score not only means that a company is taking increasingly effective environmental measures, but also has a positive effect on a company's reputation.
The 2014 report ranks EVRY as the best IT business in Norway and Sweden, and also as the fifth most environmentally friendly company in Norway in general.
«Being included on the exclusive CDP Global Performance Leadership Index on account of achieving the highest possible performance band demonstrates that EVRY is in the top division globally for achieving real and lasting reductions in emissions from its business. EVRY was ranked highly by CDP because they were able to see a connection between its targets, its strategy, and reductions in the amount of greenhouse gases it emits, and it is a model in this area for companies in Norway and the Nordic regions. The measures it is taking to reduce its environmental impact are also proving beneficial financially and are helping to make it more competitive, and mean that the company is increasingly well adapted to the low carbon society of the future. We are proud to work with a business such as EVRY", comments Claudia Villamor, technical consultant at CO2focus.
About the report
One of the requirements evaluated by CDP is whether companies have and follow a policy of sustainable growth. Examples of this include travel policy, management of company cars, heat recovery in office buildings, and waste recycling. Policies such as these are important for reducing and improving emissions as many employees work in offices.
EVRY is a large-scale provider of operations and its activities in this area produce more emissions than any other. One of the reasons for EVRY's success in the CDP report is its systematic adoption of measures to reduce its environmental impact, particularly through the line management of its Nordic Operations business area. Two examples that have played particularly important roles are virtualisation and the introduction of environmental requirements for suppliers. Two other steps that have helped us to climb the climate rankings are consolidating our data centres and building the new data centre at Fet.
EVRY reported to the CDP on the environmental impact of its activities for the first time in 2013. We work with CO2focus, who advise us on environmental issues, systematic data collection and environmental reporting, and who continually provide EVRY with insights into which measures will make the greatest difference with regard to the sustainability of its growth.
CDP describes what receiving a high score in this report means as follows: "A high score signals that a company is measuring, verifying and managing its carbon footprint, for example by setting and meeting carbon reduction targets and implementing programs to reduce emissions in both its direct operations and supply chain."
