ExxonMobil to Sponsor Texas Academy Science and Technology Conference
Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) will be the platinum sponsor of the 8th annual conference of The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST) January 6-7 in Austin. ExxonMobil’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rex W. Tillerson will deliver a keynote address on oil and gas exploration.
The "Innovation in Texas: Past, Present and Future” conference, to be held at the Hyatt Regency Austin, will bring together top scientific and technology leaders to share information and explore avenues for collaboration across Texas. Participants are expected to include the state’s higher education leaders, technology executives, researchers and community members.
"Texas has an outstanding legacy of being a fertile ground for research, exploration, development and technological achievement,” Tillerson said. "ExxonMobil is proud to be a catalyst in bringing bright minds together from across the state to keep Texas at the forefront of science and math advancement.”
This is ExxonMobil’s seventh year to sponsor the event and is part of the company’s commitment to raise awareness of and support of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
ExxonMobil supports programs that encourage students to take an active interest in careers in the math and science fields, support professional development of highly qualified teachers and promote involvement of women and minorities in these subjects. ExxonMobil is a founding sponsor of the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) and committed $125 million to support it. NMSI was launched to improve math and science education by preparing talented students and teachers. Across Texas, ExxonMobil also supports ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camps, Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy, Science Ambassadors, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day and Sally Ride Science Festival and provides monetary support to Texas colleges and universities through its Matching Gifts Program.
