Former AIG Chairman Gives $10 Million To Bush Super PAC

(RTTNews) - Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has struggled to gain much traction in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, but his low poll numbers do not seem to have hurt his ability to raise money.

According to a report in Thursday's Wall Street Journal, former American International Group, Inc. (AIG) Chairman and CEO Maurice "Hank" Greenberg is donating $10 million to the Super PAC supporting Bush.

Greenberg did not deny making the contribution to Bush's Right to Rise PAC in an interview with the paper but declined to discuss it.

The Wall Street Journal said the billionaire's donation to Bush's Super PAC makes him one of the largest contributors in the 2016 race.

Greenberg served as head of financial giant AIG from 1968 until being ousted amid an accounting scandal in 2005.

AIG was subsequently bailed out by the federal government during the financial crisis of 2008, receiving nearly $185 billion in taxpayer money.

Greenberg filed a class-action lawsuit against the government over its handling of the bailout of AIG and eventually won but received none of the $40 billion he sought in damages.

Bush's Super PAC has reportedly spent more than $47 billion on advertising during the presidential campaign, although he remains well behind Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in most polls.
