Fred's December Comp Sales Decline 1.4% - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Fred's Inc (FRED), an operator of discount general merchandise stores, announced that comparable store sales for the month of December decreased 1.4 percent on top of an increase of 1.4 percent last year.

However, sales for the month increased 1 percent to $210.7 million from $209.1 million a year ago.

For the 11-month year-to-date period, comparable store sales decreased 1.0 percent on top of an increase of 0.9 percent last year. Meanwhile, sales for the period increased 1 percent to $1.83 billion from $1.81 billion in the same period last year.

During December, Fred's opened two full-service store locations and four Xpress locations. Fred's also closed 47 full-service store locations in line with the company's reconfiguration plan.
