Gary Butler Elected to DeVry’s Board of Directors
DeVry Inc. (NYSE:DV), a global provider of educational services, announced today at its annual meeting of stockholders that Gary Butler, 64, was elected to serve as a Class II director until 2011. The election of Butler brings the number of directors to 12 and makes each of the board’s three classes evenly distributed.
Butler currently serves as president and chief executive officer for Automatic Data Processing, Inc. ("ADP”), a provider of business outsourcing solutions. He has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility since joining ADP in 1975. Prior to assuming his current role in 2006, Butler served as president and chief operating officer for eight years. He received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Georgia. In addition to being on the board of ADP, he also serves on the board of Liberty Mutual Group.
"We are pleased to welcome an executive of Gary’s caliber to the board,” said Harold T. Shapiro, Ph.D., board chair of DeVry Inc. "He shares the board’s strong commitment to academic quality and successful student outcomes. Further, his international experience and knowledge of incorporating information technology into an organization’s processes will help DeVry’s senior leadership to best position it for future growth.”
In addition, Dr. Shapiro, Connie R. Curran, Daniel Hamburger and Ronald L. Taylor were also re-elected to serve as Class I directors through 2013. PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP was also ratified as the independent registered public accounting firm for the organization. DeVry’s amended and restated incentive plan was also approved but a proposal submitted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was defeated.
